Focus On Things You Can Control

Change is essential for any business to grow, expand, and thrive. However, just knowing that there is a change and doing nothing about it, is very disruptive, and inefficient for your business. Planning for change and being on the path to work towards it is a key step for growth in business. There should be a change management plan that articulates the areas of the business that are going to be affected and would have a certain impact on its customers, stakeholders and employees. There are certain things that are under your control and some that are uncontrollable.

Acknowledging that there has been a recent change in the workplace does cause stress, but if you focus your energy on the areas where change has happened, it can be a huge stress reliever. If you give away 110% of yourself in resisting change, it is untimely going to backfire you and put you in a state of conflict. Knowing that there are certain things that are under your control even during the transition of change can really be helpful.

Set A Goal

It is important to be able to articulate employees where the organization is headed now and where the leadership sees it in the future. Employees will be able to achieve better when there are concrete goals. Leaders should be able to enunciate the needs of organizational change, shift in market forces, new opportunities, or a new strategic plan.

Set New Objectives

During the time of uncertainty, employees will want to know how the change will affect their performance appraisal, assessment, promotion cycle and compensation.

Make Time For Important Commitments

Take some time to figure out important commitments. Time Management is the ability to control events. Some things are uncontrollable; thus it is important to make time for those things that are controllable and provide growth to the organization. Make time for goals that fall under the following two categories:

  1. Urgent And Important
  2. Not Urgent But Important

Not being able to feel in control is the enemy of time management and also causes stress in our daily life. Trying to control things that aren’t in your hands also leads to stress and unhappiness. Focus on goals that are within your control. Make decisions based on previous analysis. With competing demands that exist, you probably feel as if much of your day is not in your control.
